Treats
Can my dog eat the Boar, Beef, Venison chews, or are they just for gnawing?
Yes, the chews are suitable to be digested. Each protein will have it’s own benefits it can provide in relation to vitamins and minerals. We’d always recommend to monitor your dog with long lasting chews and assess their chewing pattern.
How should I use the pate and how long does it last for?
The pate is highly versatile. It can be chopped up into bite-size treats, that can be used for training purposes such as recall and heel training. It can also be used as part of enrichment in snuffle devices. The pate can be sliced and fed as a complete meal, which is a good alternative for raw fed dogs when travelling.
Once opened the pate can be stored in the fridge for 3 days. Any pate not used within this time frame can be frozen and thawed at a later date for consumption.

Are furry/hairy treats good for dogs?
The fur on natural treats has a number of benefits. Such as acting as a floss for the hard to reach areas in between teeth, helping to remove some of that surface plaque. The fur can potentially cleanse the digestive tract as it passes through, leading to better nutrient absorption from their diet. The fur may also act as a natural dewormer, also aiding the digestive system and your dogs overall well-being.
Do natural treats smell?
Some treats will have a more distinctive smell than others. This is due to the nature of the product – there are no preservatives or chemical processing steps involved which usually dampen or eliminate bad smells.
For example, any natural fish based products or beef products tend to have a stronger smell than others. These smells are natural for dogs and is one of the reasons they’re drawn to natural treats.
How do I store the treats?
The treats can be stored in a cool dry place, in the original packaging or transferred to a suitable container. This way the freshness will be preserved. There is no need to store the treats in the fridge – the only exception to this from our product range is the pate and the organic jars.
Can I give my dog a treat everyday?
Yes of course, a natural treat a day is a good thing. Not only does it release serotonin in your dog, each treat has it’s own additional benefits from additional vitamins and minerals in their diet, to dental hygiene and mental stimulation. We would recommend altering the times you give the treats so as you’re not hounded at that time everyday when it becomes a habit 🙂
Is Rawhide bad for my dog?
Yes, rawhide can be harmful to your dog – it can cause digestive distress and intestinal blockages as it swells during the digestion process. In general rawhide is treated with chemicals to remove hair, fat and colour and is essentially a byproduct of leather, hence the issues with digestion. None of the natural treats from Atlas & tail contain rawhide or are made from rawhide.
Supplements
Does my dog need supplements?
Not all dogs require supplements. If your dog has a well balanced diet that is provides the necessary vitamins and minerals needed for their daily lives, then supplements may not be required. It is worth checking the ingredients and assessing what vitamins and minerals are contained within your choice if food. It’s also worth bearing in mind that if your dog is fed kibble, essential nutrients may be diminished in processing. Consider the type of treats you are feeding, if they are natural healthy treats they can be a good source for additional nutrients. Along with fruit and veg.
We would recommend our supplements for dogs that are suffering from conditions such as arthritis and gut imbalances, for breeds that are predisposed to conditions that may make their life harder and with the right supplement you can make it easier. Always be aware of the ingredients in the supplements you’re looking to add to your dogs diet and consult with your vet to address any concerns in relation to specific conditions.
